Sorcerer will serve three years in prison

The person who used sorcery to gain entry into a house will serve three years in prison.

The Western Province man, who confessed to Tabubil Police to be a sorcerer, appeared at the Tabubil District Court on Friday. He was charged with two counts of assault, one count of insult and one count of unlawful entry on premises.

From police brief, it was alleged that on December 17 at around 2am, Mimal Lucas, aged 26, of Golgobip Village, was spotted by the occupant of the house inside the room, despite the doors being locked.

The complainant said she was surprised to see the man when he went into her room while she was sleeping with her two children.

She said the man tried to pull the blanket from her four-year-old daughter, when she coughed, alerting the man to quickly exit the house.

And because of the moonlight, the suspect was identified by the complainant.

She followed Lucas to his house to question him, where he denied being there.

He said he was sleeping and swore at the complainant and followed her to her house and punched her, which resulted in the complainant laying a formal complaint with police the next morning.

He admitted that he learnt how to practice cult while he was doing Grade 10 at Ningrum High School in 2011.

Tabubil District court magistrate Billy Pidu, when handing doing the court verdict, said going to prison will help the prisoner change.

The suspect is now locked up at Tabubil police station waiting for his warrant of commitment to be transported down to Ningrum CIS to serve his term.
