Health sector gets K1.5b in 2018

The Health sector has been allocated K1,505.9 million which is 10.2% of the total Budget and is an increase of 14% from the 2017 Supplementary Budget.

From the total Budget, K1b is allocated for operational and K461.7m for capital expenditures while K266.1m has been allocated for medical supplies, procurement and distribution processes.

Handing down the 2018 Budget today, Treasurer Charles Abel said the Government remains focused on delivering an efficient and effective health system that achieves internationally acceptable standards of health services that are accessible by people across the country.

He added that financing of the Health Sector has increased significantly over the last five years and a focus in improving the infrastructures.

Meanwhile, Minister for Planning Richard Maru also shared the same sentiments saying more funds will be available to districts to build district hospitals.

NRI Economic policy programme leader, Dr Francis Odhuno, also praised the Government for the initiative to invest more in district health.
