Former Madang finance officer arrested

The fraud squad in Madang, assisted by local police, has arrested provincial finance director Dick Moiga and former provincial administrator Danny Aloi.

The men were arrested on June 8 and June 10 respectively.

Provincial Police Commander, Chief Inspector Ben Neneo, confirmed their arrest today.

PPC Neneo told this newsroom that the arrest of senior provincial officers should serve as a warning to those that are involved in corrupt dealings.

He clarified that the two senior officers were arrested and charged with two counts of dishonesty under section 383, subsection 1a of the amended Criminal Code Act, and abuse of public office under section 87, subsection 1a of the Criminal Code Act.

Neneo said both officers were charged for misusing K400,000 belonging to Madang Provincial Administration.

He said both officers were out on K4,000 court bail each.

PPC Neneo further explained that their arrest was a follow up of an investigation done earlier by former Madang PPC but was never completed due to unknown reasons.

He urged senior officers in public office not to be tempted to use public money for their personal gains but rather, put the funds to good use by helping the people.

Meantime, Neneo thanked his officers for providing successful security operations for the APEC Senior Finance Officials’ Meeting held in the province recently.
