Police search for death row escapees

Madang provincial police commander, Ben Neneo, says police and Correctional Service officers are searching for the five, who were placed on death row mid this year for the massacre of seven people in 2014.

They are part of the eight-man group that was sentenced to life in prison for hacking their victims to death over sorcery-related allegations in Ramu.

“That was the decision made by Justice David Cannings; those were the five. So we are trying our best to locate them,” stated Neneo.

Former Madang finance officer arrested

The men were arrested on June 8 and June 10 respectively.

Provincial Police Commander, Chief Inspector Ben Neneo, confirmed their arrest today.

PPC Neneo told this newsroom that the arrest of senior provincial officers should serve as a warning to those that are involved in corrupt dealings.

He clarified that the two senior officers were arrested and charged with two counts of dishonesty under section 383, subsection 1a of the amended Criminal Code Act, and abuse of public office under section 87, subsection 1a of the Criminal Code Act.
