Cancer foundation announces sponsor

The Papua New Guinea Cancer Foundation (PNGCF) has announced JM Ocean Avenue (JMOA) as the sponsor of one of its programs for the next three years.

JMOA will be backing the Community Outreach Prevention Education Program (COPEP).

“In 2016 JMOA came on board to sponsor the cancer education & awareness workshops held in Port Moresby under a three year partnership,” said Patricia Agaru, JMOA branch manager.

“While this year will be the final year of the 3 year partnership, JMOA is happy to continue sponsoring the cancer education & awareness workshops in Port Moresby beyond 2018.”

The Community Outreach Prevention Education Program workshops are conducted during the PNGCF Campaign months from May to October. The workshops are conducted by a PNGCF health educator and focus on what is cervical, breast and mouth cancer and the importance of early prevention and detection as a way to reduce the risk of developing these cancers in the future.

“Since 2016, PNGCF & JMOA has so far reached out to over 3,000 participants from both corporate and community groups in Port Moresby and Central Province on cancer prevention,” said PNGCF programs coordinator, Priscillar Napoleon.

“These educational workshops aim to encourage individuals to reduce their risk of cancer by choosing to make healthy lifestyle choices such as; Don’t chew betelnut, Don’t Smoke, Reduce Alcohol, Eat Healthy & Exercise Regularly.”

Napoleon said in 2017, PNGCF had more than 1,700 participants attend the workshops throughout the year with numbers expected to increase this year as people are becoming more interested in healthy lifestyle choices and learning about cancer prevention.

The Community Outreach Prevention Education Program workshops are free to the public and will be held at the Royal Papua Yacht Club during the months of May, June, July, August and October this year.

To register to attend these workshops, contact the PNG Cancer Foundation office on 180 2009 or email programs@pngcancerfoundation.net for more information.

“PNGCF would like to sincerely thank JM Ocean Avenue for coming on board again this year and continuing the fight against cancer in PNG.”
