Inmates take part in Christmas celebrations

Once you’re on the other side of the fence, you only hope to experience the freedom like a normal citizen but how soon? Well it depends.

For a group of young men from Bomana, yoga has given them that chance sooner than their terms.

With their leader Gordon Gala Jnr, nine inmates were able to be part of the carols by candlelight’s celebration in Port Moresby last night.

Yogi Jailbirds, as they called themselves, gave an outstanding performance of acrobatic skills to an eager crowd of hundreds of the city residents.

“It’s a wonderful night here and we are happy to be part of the celebrations,” Gala Jnr told Loop PNG.

The team was at the venue as early as 2pm for the program set to begin at 6pm.

Following their performance, they joined the crowd to enjoy a bit of the show before heading back.

Jogi Jailbirds were not the only performers from Bomana.

Bomana Prison Band was also given the opportunity to present a few items with musicians Sybil Taule and Mereani Masani.

Event Organiser Sylvia Pascoe of Pascoe Promotions was impressed with the involvement of the inmates.

“This is how much they are trusted,” she said.
