Artists back PNG Kapuls

Soccer is a global sport. Music is a universal language.

What happens when you put the two together?

For musicians, there’s always a purpose to their music, says Wayne Blasta Atasoa, a well-known bassist in PNG.

And one of such is a group of local musicians coming together to help raise funds for PNG’s national football team – the PNG Kapuls.

You’ve heard these names before: Mereani Masani, dAdiigii, Tarvin Tounie and O’Four.

The group, backed by a very talented band, including Blasta, aim to bring a night of fun and entertainment in a fundraising event set to be hosted on May 25 at the Dynasty Restaurant.

“We thought it’d be a great idea for us to mix sports and PNG art – music – together.

“It’s a PNG pride thing. And this is us giving back, as musicians. We’re there for entertainment, and there to tell people that we are raising funds for the team who will represent us.

“So basically, it will just be a night of entertainment where everyone comes, have dinner and have fun. We will perform all our original songs,” said Mereani.

Blasta stressed on utilising music positively.

“For this occasion, you inspire sports and motivate, promote unity, bring everyone together. It’s an honour to perform in such an event,” he said.

The group is calling on the public to help out by buying tickets to the event.
