Lae police command gets organised

Lae police have undergone a review in their setup of their unit commanders to be in a closer proximity to the metropolitan command to ensure that operational matters are communicated effectively.

Lae Metropolitan Police Commander Anthony Wagambie says the new arrangements will be to also better coordinate and organise to deal with law and order issues.

He says in recent months since taking office the Mobile units in Lae are more coordinated operationally and are also taking part more actively in policing duties.

While the Task Force unit has been given additional manpower amalgamating the armed reserve unit under one commander with the foot beat units forming the response team for the units.

Meantime, the Mobile squad commander has been given office space at the Lae Central police station where an operations wing has also been created.

Wagambie explains that the Commander along with other operational units have been allocated offices in one area along with the Superintendent of Operations and police station commander town.

He hopes this in the long run will allow better coordination with operational matters.
