Former Australian PM praises O'Neill

Former Australian Prime Minister, Tony Abbott has praised the Government for the transformation of the country from a sleeping outpost to where it is today.

Abbott who first walked the Kokoda track in 1980 then came back to repeat that in 1988 and lately visited the country as the Prime Minister of Australia for three times within two years made these remarks.

He said the country has transformed dramatically and the capital city, Port Moresby is no longer a sleepy outpost.

He added that the country is the metropolis of the Melanesian world and it will be the worthy host of the 2018 APEC Summit.

He said the development is taking place at a much faster rate because it is the people and the Government working together by making right decisions.

“Yes, it is easy enough here in Port Moresby to find a mugging story. I heard them 30 years ago but it is absolutely undeniable that most people’s life are much better today.

Abbott made those remarks at the Lamana Hotel while celebrating Anglicare PNG for their effort in helping people living with HIV/AIDS on Tuesday.
