DWU Madang students association to host cultural show

THE MADANG Students Association at the Divine Word University will be staging a mini-cultural show in Madang for the first-time outside of campus at the Laiwaden oval on Saturday, September 3.

Chairman of the Madang Students Association, Richard Paraka, when highlighting the event to the media, said planning for the mini-show is in progress and the organising committee and students are already having high hopes that it would be a thrill come Saturday.

Paraka said the Madang students’ initiative was hugely boosted last weekend with a surprise assistance  of K10,000 from the Member for Madang and Minister for Petroleum and Energy, Nixon Duban.

“We are so grateful to Minister Nixon Duban for such an assistance which is very timely,” he said.

He added that the students had written letters to business houses within Madang for support, however, the responses were not favourable.

Paraka said previously the students used to host such event within the DWU main campus and it was done in the evening. However, this time they had decided to have it outside and chose the Laiwaden oval to involve the Madang town residents and community。

He said invitations had been sent to nearby primary schools at Lutheran Day and Tusbab secondary school to perform items at the mini show.  Madang community are also invited to set up stalls at the event. Fees for stalls range from K100 for individuals and K200 for business houses. Provincial clubs from DWU will pay K50.

Paraka said the gate fees into the mini-cultural show is K3 for students and K5 for adults.

One of the highlights of the show will be the live performances by popular Madang music artists Demas Saul and Vok Kiatig of the Shydeez band.
