Consumers owe Eda Ranu K53 million

Eda Ranu consumers owe the water company K53 million in accumulated outstanding bills.

The State-owned water supplier is the sole distributor of treated water to residents in Port Moresby and parts of Central Province.

Eda Ranu chief executive officer Henry Mokono revealed that the outstanding debt dates to March 31, 2016.

In a media conference flanked by his top managers, Mokono appealed to defaulters to pay up.

“Our appeal, especially to the Government departments and disciplinary forces, is to meet their obligations. We need these funds to provide quality services to the community.”

He added that Government departments and the three disciplinary forces’ debt total to K27 million, and commercial business entities, settlements, Motu-Koita villagers and residential owners’ bill is at K26 million combined.

“Unpaid figures for commercial entities amount to K6.3 million, we have already identified big defaulters and our teams will go out to address it.

“At the end of March and April, the three disciplinary forces have come good, paying over K1.4 million but there is still an outstanding of about K25.6 million because every day they accumulate bills,” Mokono said.

The projected company monthly income from fees is between K9-10 million.
