Adele dedicates show to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

It's the "end of an era" Adele told the sell-out crowd in New York.

The singer who's written her fair share of break-up songs, dedicated the second of her six nights at Madison Square to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

The couple, who have been together since 2004 and married in 2014, are getting divorced.

A few songs into her show, the Grammy winner asked if she could "address the elephant in the room," saying the news marks the "end of an era".

The 28-year-old said she felt it was the right time to reflect on the relationship, because as she put it, she was playing "two hours of misery".

It seems Hollywood actor and friend of the couple George Clooney could have done with being at the gig too.

Clooney was at a United Nations event with President Barack Obama when a reporter asked him how he felt about the break-up.

"I didn't know that. Wow. I feel very sorry then," Clooney said.

"That's a sad story and unfortunate for a family. It's an unfortunate story about a family.

"I feel very sorry to hear that. It's the first I've heard of it."

Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt citing "irreconcilable differences".

Her lawyer Robert Offer said the "decision was made for the health of the family".

"She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time," Offer added in a statement.

It is understood Jolie is seeking physical custody of the couple's six children and is asking the judge to give Pitt visitation rights.
