Bringing the government to the people

In the face of adversity, and the growth of a modern Port Moresby indigenous people of the Motu Koitabu at times seem to be marginalise and struggle to participate in the economic boom of the city.

Challenging this norm, local Member for Moresby North East and Minister for Housing and Urbanisation John Kaupa surprised everyone in bringing his District Development Authority (DDA) meeting into the urban village of Korobosea.

Previous meeting by the MP were hosted by the Nine mile and the Bush wara community.

Minister Kaupa in thanking the Korobosea community said, the purpose of hosting his DDA meetings in settlement and Motu village is to bring the government back to the people.

He said that this is where the government belongs to enable equal participation of discussion on development issues affecting them.

The Minister said that the budget and the DSIP funding of K10 million allocated by the National Government is for the people therefore they must know how this money is disbursed in its sector development program as a mean of transparency.

Meantime, minister Kaupa also gave K20, 000 to the Korobosea community for hosting a successful DDA meeting.
