Rice farmers

It was a culmination of 18 weeks of demonstration of transfer of knowledge assessment, and two weeks of intensive training covering four modules on irrigated rice farming at the PNG University of Technology in 2023.

The farmers, who proudly received their certificates in irrigated rice farming, are from 13 provinces, including Morobe, Bougainville and Milne Bay.

Polling challenges in Angoram

The majority of villagers in the Angoram District of East Sepik Province are reachable using the Sepik River waterways.

The training was delivered jointly by MiBank and Niugini Strategic Services Ltd in conjunction with Trukai Industries.

The farmers learnt the fundamentals of financial literacy, including budgeting for essential household expenses, savings advice, money management and basic banking including opening a bank account.

Rice development manager for Trukai Industries, Humphrey Saese said the training empowers the locals to work towards improving their livelihood and wealth through savings strategies.
