Producers: 'Vampire Diaries' ending after eight seasons

The show -- which has so far run for seven seasons on the network -- would be finishing after eight seasons, executive producers Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson announced at Comic-Con, the annual nerd-fest that is quickly becoming the forum to announce major pop-culture news.

In an emotional farewell video, Plec and Williamson joined the cast to show their appreciation to their loyal fanbase.

Kat Graham is leaving The Vampire Diaries now too

The Bonnie Bennett actress has revealed that she will not remain with The CW drama series should it be renewed beyond its upcoming eighth season.

"Season eight will be my last season," she told Us Weekly. "I just hope that whatever I do after, the crew can come with me."

Graham added: "The crew is going to be the hardest thing to let go, because we are a family."

The star also urged Vampire Diaries' loyal fans not to worry yet – because there will be an entire year before they have to say goodbye to Bonnie.

The Vampire Diaries has an end date, sort of

What's a show about a vampire love triangle between two immortal brothers without the object of their affection?

Now, a half a season later, the CW hit is in the middle of a creative renaissance and as strong as ever. But that doesn't mean the end isn't near.

Co-creator Julie Plec tells E! News that she has indeed begun to think about how she'll wrap up the series—which is natural for something that's gone on for seven seasons—and even decided on an end point.
