Teach for Tomorrow

Largest ‘Teach for Tomorrow’ project announced

In its largest roll-out of the project to date, KTF and its partners at the PNG Education Institute and Southern Highlands Department of Education, will deliver the final stage of the mixed-mode, multigrade certificate of elementary teaching to 669 teachers across the Province.

K150,000 boost for teachers’ program

The Porgera Joint Venture (PJV) has partnered with the Kokoda Track Foundation with a support of K150,000 to enable teachers in Enga to participate in KTF’s ‘Teach for Tomorrow’ training program.

The ‘Teach for Tomorrow’ program enables partially trained elementary teachers to complete their Certificates of Elementary Teaching, and become certified as fully-fledged elementary teachers.

The Enga project commenced in Wabag on 24 July, and will run for 6 weeks.

Wabag trainee teachers upskilled

The six week program, which kicks off on Monday 23 July, is being run by the Kokoda Track Foundation (KTF), PNG Education Institute (PNGEI) and National Department of Education, with the support of Enga’s largest private enterprise, the Porgera Joint Venture (PJV) mine.

Called ‘Teach for Tomorrow’, the training enables partially-trained elementary teachers to complete their Certificates of Elementary Teaching and become certified as fully-fledged elementary teachers.

Teach for Tomorrow trains 377 more teachers

This was made possible through the Teach for Tomorrow project, an initiative delivered by the Kokoda Track Foundation (KTF), PNG Education Institute (PNGEI) and New Ireland Provincial Department of Education.

The certificate enables partially trained teachers – some 7,500 across PNG – to meet the PNG Government’s new minimum qualifications required of elementary teachers. Without the additional certification, the teachers would no longer be employable on the Government’s payroll, putting at risk the schooling of 225,000 students.

Program expands to New Ireland

Generously funded by Newcrest Mining, the James Family Foundation and New Ireland Provincial Department of Education, the training program enables partially-trained elementary teachers to complete their Certificates of Elementary Teaching and become certified as fully-fledged elementary teachers.

534 more elementary teachers get certified

The project is delivered by the Kokoda Track Foundation (KTF), Papua New Guinea Education Institute (PNGEI) and Morobe Provincial Department of Education.

The Certificate enables partially trained teachers – some 7,500 across PNG – to upgrade their qualifications to meet the new minimum qualifications required of elementary teachers.

Supported by Newcrest Mining Limited, the Australian Government, and the Morobe Provincial Government, the training was delivered over six weeks in facilities provided by the Pileh Community.

120 new elementary teachers for province

They graduated from Kokoda Track Foundation’s Teach for Tomorrow training program last week, funded by partners at the Flight Centre Foundation, Milne Bay Provincial Education and Member for Esa’ala, Steven Davis.

The newly trained teachers have been given the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to deliver a high quality education to elementary aged children in remote schools across the maritime province. They will also have the opportunity to access Government payroll positions for the first time ever, after volunteering in their schools for many years.
