And in an industry where local music is so popular, hip-hop artists like Daddy Kakii just do it because they love what they do.

He has worked closely with others like Blak Bones and their collective Naka Blood & Kumul Kry in the underground hip-hop movement to bring this type of music out.

“We just do our music the way we want to…we realise it’s not as popular as what is termed ‘local music’, but it’s the music we love so if you love what you do then you’re going to do it well regardless!

“I think that’s something all musicians would think,” DKakii says.

That’s the question as the hour hand nears 10pm, commencing the grand finale of Rap’ture 2016, the first ever mainstream rap battle in PNG.

Six contestants will enter the battle grounds, armed with tongue-twisting creativity to impress the crowd and the judges tonight at the Cosmopolitan club.

With the heat settling in, one of Rap’ture 2016’s judge brings us back to the audition stages of the competition.

“When they came in, I wasn’t really impressed,” says Kamako of 3KiiNgZ.
