Beyoncé stands against North Carolina's anti-trans law

A post on the 'Formation' singer's website entitled "Equality NC Works To Prove 'Y'all Means All'" praises those trying to repeal the ruling - officially called HB2.

The law bans trans people from using bathrooms that align with their gender identity, and was signed in by the state's Governor Pat McCrory in March.

Musicians such as Bruce Springsteen, Ringo Starr, Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato previously cancelled shows in North Carolina over the bill, though Beyoncé​ went ahead with hers on Tuesday (May 3).

North Carolina move to put Billy Graham statue in US Capitol

North Carolina's Senate voted unanimously Thursday to pass the measure asking a congressional committee to approve Graham's likeness as a state contribution to the Capitol. The bill, approved by the state's House counterparts in April, now goes to Gov. Pat McCrory.

The 96-year-old evangelist grew up in Charlotte and lives in Montreat, North Carolina.

Shipwreck found off North Carolina, possibly from late 1700s

The expedition led by Duke marine scientist Cindy Van Dover found the previously unknown wreck in mile-deep waters on July 12 using an underwater robot and a manned submarine.

They've found artifacts including an iron chain, glass bottles, an unglazed pottery jug and navigational instruments including a metal compass. Archaeologists who examined photos of the artifacts say the wreck appears to date back as far as the late 18th century, which would make it a rare find.

Red wolf reintroductions halted while changes considered

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said in a news release that no more captive-bred wolves will be used to bolster the wild population of between 75 and 100 of the carnivores present in several counties in the eastern part of the state. It said it will continue to manage the wild population.

The service said the reintroductions will be halted at least until it completes a further review of the program begun in 1987 to restore the wolves to the wild. It expects to finish its review by the end of the year.

1 suspect in northeastern NC shooting death turns self in

A statement from police said 24-year-old Brandon Joyner turned himself in around midday Saturday.

The State Bureau of Investigation says the two men are believed to be armed and dangerous.

An SBI statement says 24-year-old Shuntavius Vaughan of Conway was shot and killed just after midnight Friday.

Authorities are still looking for Rumeal Daye and Akeem Robinson. Both are 24 years old and are from Conway, a small town in the state's northeast. They face multiple charges, including first-degree murder and firearm possession by a felon.
