Australian fast bowler becomes No.1

Hazlewood snared 32 wickets in six Tests on home soil against South Africa and Pakistan to be ranked the third on the bowling rankings - behind Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

Sri Lanka tweaker Rangana Herath came in fourth with South African quick Dale Steyn fifth - meaning Hazlewood ranks as the premier fast bowler.

Hazlewood's new ball partner Mitchell Starc was 10th on the list and also ranked 7th out of the Test all-rounders.

​Australia’s deputy envoy commends Lewas

Barras take it to the Western Australians

Batting first, the young Western Australian line-up posted a massive 8/322 off their allocated 50 overs, with Ashton Turner (116) belting a magnificent century.

Tuner’s century came at a better that a run-a-ball, while D Short (60 off 33 balls) and Jonathan Wells (57 off 60 balls) played very handy supporting roles.

With the ball for the HEBOU PNG Barramundis, Norman Vanua was the standout taking 4/74 off his 10 overs, while Assad Vala (1/10), Mahuru Dai (1/34) and John Boge Reva (1/61) all picked up a wicket each. 

Transhighway Cup gets under way in Lae

In the first match, Lae Seniors were too strong for the Lae Juniors, defeating them by five wickets. Batting first, the Juniors were bowled out for 67 in 18 overs, with Alfred Amini taking 3/18 with the ball. In replay, Billy Maha (29*) steered the Seniors to a comfortable victory despite Samson Thorope taking 3/7 with the ball.

The second match saw Madang thrash Goroka by 98 runs with Neville Kukune (3/4) and Douglas Kiwarp (3/5) starring with the ball for Madang.

Hebou PNG Barramundis humbled by Ireland in first T20I

After Ireland’s Captain, William Porterfield won the toss and sent the HEBOU PNG Barramundis, HEBOU PNG were restricted to only 9/92 off their allotted 20 overs.

This was mainly due to some disciplined bowling by Ireland and some indifferent batting from the HEBOU PNG Barramundis.

Sese Bau (22) and Charles Amini Jnr (21) were the main contributors with the bat for the HEBOU PNG Barramundis, while Kevin O’Brien (2/10), Craig Young (2/15) and Andy McBrine (2/17) all picked up two wickets each for Ireland.

EAP suffer second defeat against Victoria

 Victoria batted first and set a big total of 245 for victory after batting out the full 50 overs.

This was thanks largely to a knock of 92 from opener Nathan Walsh.

Gabba Champions Shield: Day Two

ANZ batted first and were soon in trouble for 3/38 after eight overs. 

Sakavai Gebai (27), Norman Vanua (26) and Greg Baeau (24) then steadied the innings, to steeer ANZ out of trouble.

But Paradise Foods Pistons’ captain Mahuru Dai (5/24) turned the match again, with a five wicket haul which was the first for the Gabba Champions Shield

ANZ were all bowled out for 155 inside 36 overs. Dai picked up the first five-wicket haul of the Gabba Shield.

PNG Barras to play Nepal twice in November

The Barras will play the first game on November 28th at the University Oval K, Kathmandu and again on the 30th at the same venue.

PNG Barramundis still in the mix for World T20

The Barramundis finished in fourth place for pool A and must now win all games in order to get one of the four remaining qualification spots for India. Ireland and Scotland took the two automatic qualifying positions by virtue of finishing top of their pools.

The PNG Barramundis will face winner of Afghanistan and Hong Kong on Thursday 23rd July at 7pm PNG time, with the match to be shown live on Digicel Play and TVWAN Sports HD.

PNG, Namibia and Hong Kong, along with Ireland, are through to the next stage of the tournament.
