Meanwhile, reports on LOAs from correctional institutions for 2017 are expected reach the commissioner’s office no later than the end of January 2018, which is according to a circular sent out earlier this month.

This is because the number of prisoners in all correctional institutions in PNG is three times the total number of correctional officers throughout the country.

The total number of detainees throughout the country is over 4,000 while the number of Correctional Service officers stands at 1,451.

With the population increasing, the number of prisoners is also increasing.
