USA confidence high: Coach

USA Coach Michelle French knows what is needed to down Team Ghana in their next Group match and qualify for the next stage of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Papua New Guinea.

French made this comment after a clinical performance by her team, defeating New Zealand 3-1 in their Group C challenge in Port Moresby on Thursday.

Ghana with a loss and draw, will play for survival in their final fixture against USA on Monday at Sir John Guise Stadium.

USA after their two matches had registered a win and draw.

The 39 year old coach said, US scouts have done a great job and they will be in a better position to face Ghana on game day.

Meanwhile, the USA coach was pleased with the team’s win over New Zealand despite the stiff opposition given by the Kiwis ladies.

The Oceania champions made a came back after scoring, taking the score to 2-1, but USA put the nail to the coffin with a goal to substitute striker Ally Watt in the 82nd minute.

“It was a blessing when the drink breaks came as New Zealand have all the momentum after scoring, it (drink breaks) was a time to refocus,” French said.

USA leads the Group C points leader with 4 points, New Zealand 3 points, France 2 and Ghana 1.
