PNG coaches need to be properly accredited

With rugby league as the national sport for Papua New Guinea, the country needs local coaches who are properly accredited.

Australian NRL in country manager Mark Mom said in the game of rugby league these days, in order to improve the actual game you need coaches that are properly accredited.

Australian NRL in PNG is funded under the Australian Government and one of its outcomes is to build a capacity for the PNG Rugby Football League (PNGRFL).

Mom said the Australian NRL must make sure that they have the proper tools to increase coach education.

“We must ensure that PNGRFL has accredited coaches because the focus now in the NRL is how you coach, not what you coach.

“It is very important because coaches have impact on people, the kids that they’re around and the environment that enable the game to grow and to grow the people in the game,” Mom said.

Mom added that PNRFL had always had a desire to increase their coach education, develop their coaching numbers and to have coaches that are properly accredited.

He said that the NRL has recognised the accreditations from modified games to school all the way up to high performance coach.

PNGRFL in collaboration with the Australian NRL is running a coaching accreditation course program this year for coaches from all local leagues affiliated to the PNGRFL.
