A good leader exhibits courage, passion, commitment and ambition, then nurture the strengths and talents of people, building them to achieving common goals.

Blue Heelers Club President, Ase Boas said when announcing the appointment of Imelda Agon as club Matron.

“Agon serves as the CEO of National Gaming Control Board, aside from her role of leading a reputable organization, she has been silently supporting youths in her local community through education, sports and music.

“Seeing the passion she shares in helping unfortunate youths realize their dreams and aspirations, we reached out to her to provide leadership and guidance to the youths in our club,” said Boas.

Blue Heelers Rugby Union Club was incorporated early this year, and is made up of youths from the Police Barracks at Games Village, MacGregor, Dog Unit, Red Sea Barracks, The Correctional Service and Kerepia including the surrounding communities of eight and nine mile right up to Bomana Police College.

“The club comprises of male and females. We mentor and train youths around the age group of 13-28 years who are either full time students, have finished formal education and are employed or looking for employment.”

“This club was started out of the passion to groom and influence youths to become positive contributors to their society. Whilst sports gives one the opportunity to be occupied with social activities, we saw this as an avenue to create young agents of change,” said Boas.

As Club Matron, Agon said, “When I was approached by Ase Boas and his club executives, I had to first of all understand the vison of this club. After realizing that this club shared my same vision for young people, I accepted this role.”

“Youths are the backbone of this nation and so they need to be empowered and guided to contribute meaningfully to society. My role as this club’s matron will be to work closely with these youths to help them become champions of change in their communities.”

“I am happy to support the 80 youths of Blue Heelers Rugby Union Club. We will give our best to ensure that apart from strengthening their physical capacity through sports.”
