Teacher suspension a long process: Dr Kombra

The suspension of teachers is a long process undertaken by the Teaching Service Commission, says Secretary for Education Dr Uke Kombra.

Dr Kombra highlighted this following the recent suspension of head teachers from schools due to the collection of project fees as a condition of enrolment.

He explained that there is a long process that the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) follows under the Teaching Service Act in the case of teacher suspension.

The suspension is done according to the Education and Teaching Commission Acts.

Dr Kombra said: “The teachers are required to follow the Act. Those are lawful directives.”

He said there were processes in place that the Teaching Service Commission followed.

“There are different types of suspensions to do with minor offenses and major offenses.

“When there is an offense, there is an investigation that needs to be conducted.

“It’s the Secretary’s power to investigate any allegations by the public, or by any person, and if there’s subsequent evidence that there’s reason for suspension,” Dr Kombra explained.

He said following that, detailed investigation is carried out before they are charged or suspended.
