Reps to provide insights in APEC Vietnam meet

Senior representatives from APEC will provide insights into the 2017 APEC Economic Leaders' Week meetings on Tuesday.

This is to shape the direction of Asia-Pacific trade and globalisation policy.

The announcement will examine key issues and actions on the table for the 21 APEC member economies, which account for half of world trade and 60 percent of GDP globally.

It will further provide insights on the outlook for trade and growth, while associated policy recommendations from the latest APEC Regional Trends Analysis will be launched at the event.

The panelists will include Dr Alan Bollard, executive director of the APEC Secretariat, and Dr Denis Hew, director of the APEC policy support unit.

The topics that will be discussed are:

  • APEC Economic Leaders’ Week context;
  • Expectations for APEC Leaders and Ministers’ meetings in Da Nang;
  • Latest trade and growth trends/outlook for the APEC region;
  • Challenges in trading landscape and to institutions that support it;
  • APEC’s enhanced role as a driver of Asia-Pacific and global trade in the current climate;
  • Trade, growth and employment focus areas; and
  • Regional economic integration, free trade and trade agreements

From 06 - 11 November, 2017, in Da Nang, Viet Nam, the AELW will be held under the theme "Creating New Dynamism, Fostering a Shared Future”.

The leaders’ week officially starts today.
