New series of PNG stamps released

Post PNG released a series of collectors’ stamps today to commemorate Papua New Guinea’s historic taking over of the APEC chairmanship.

Each stamp tells a story and reflects the unique global contribution of PNG as an emerging global leader on sustainable development.

The theme of the 2018 APEC Summit is focused on sustainability; sustainable businesses, opportunities and growth for these APEC economies.

The stamps, which were launched today in what is known as a cancellation ceremony in the postage profession, will display PNG’s position as she chairs APEC; that it is not just about growth but sustainable growth.

The stamps, designed by Post PNG’s graphic artist Billy Telek, illustrate each of the major factors that contribute to achieving sustainable, economic development: People, prosperity, peace, planet and partnership.

“There are 5 stamps released representing the 5 key components of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals promoting economic development and Post PNG is proud to be a part of this,” said Post PNG CEO, Peter Tepure.

The APEC meeting has a number of spin-off products and benefits and these stamps will earn PNG a lot of currency, boost foreign exchange and allow PNG to gain more in value over time.

“From today onwards, these stamps will be available across the country in Post PNG outlets so people can start buying them,” said UN Resident coordinator Roy Trivedy.

The stamps are affordable and cost as low as K0.75.
