New NCC Board challenged to be creative

The new Board of Directors for the National Cultural Commission (NCC) has been challenged to be creative in promoting and safeguarding Papua New Guinea’s cultural heritage.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Tobias Kulang has challenged the recently appointed Board members to take the opportunity and have creative ideas to rebuild NCC.

The Board was appointed this month and is chaired by Chief Secretary Isaac Lupari and comprises of eight members from a range of fields.

The Board was sworn in on Wednesday, December 21 for a three year term.

Kulang said that in his last three months as Minister, he will work with the board to transfer what he believes should be a focus for their term in office.

“You’re men and women of wisdom in different areas of experience and the Government will look at your direction and your proposals that will be submitted to the National Executive Council.

“Most of the thinking and creativity as to how you see this institution moving forward will generate from this Board.

“Don’t under-estimate yourself but see the three years term that you have as an opportunity to contribute something to building the institution,” Kulang said.

The Board members include Anthropologist and lecturer at the University of Goroka Dr Bill Francis Sagir, acting director of the National Museum and Arts Gallery Senea Greh, Education Secretary Uke Kombra and organiser of the Goroka Show Keryn Hargreaves.
