Let the people decide: PM O’Neill

“It is the people who will make decisions on our party’s policies in the coming elections.”

Those were the remarks from Prime Minister Peter O’Neill when delivering his party policies at the National Research Institute today in Port Moresby.

O’Neill’s party, People’s National Congress (PNC) is the leading coalition partner in the Government.

O’Neill said every PNC candidate contesting in the elections will not force people to vote for them rather let the people make decisions on their own.

“We have delivered to the people and let them make decision as to whether they will mandate us again or not.

“The writing is already on the wall. We have delivered according to the Alotau Accord and now is the time where people will be speaking through their votes.”

The ruling Party (PNC) is heading into the general election with 52 MPs – 25 more than when it formed the government in 2012.

PNC, led by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, had 27 MPs when it was asked by the Governor-General Sir Michael Ogio to form the government after the 2012 general election.

The extra 25 MPs were either Independent candidates or those who joined PNC from other political parties.

O’Neill is confident that PNC will return after the elections and form the next government.
