Independence Boulevard officially opens

Chinese President Xi Jinping officially opened the Independence Boulevard intersection of the road today.

After arriving in the country last night, President Xi had meetings with Governor General Sir Bob Dadae this morning before opening the Boulevard.

This morning the President had a number of engagements, including a guard of honour at the parliament house and also a meet with the Speaker of Parliament after inspecting the parade by the 1st Royal Papua Island Regiment.

The opening of the Independence Boulevard followed after, as well the opening of Butuka Academy.

At the Boulevard opening, President Xi met Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.

The Prime Minister officially welcomed President Xi at the occasion and acknowledged the bilateral relationship as well.

President Xi extended the same courtesy and commended the outcomes of the continuing partnership.

He proceeded to open the Independence Boulevard Drive.

The Boulevard is among other Chinese-funded projects towards PNG’s hosting of the APEC Leaders’ week.

President Xi arrived in PNG yesterday evening, appearing relaxed when he stepped off the presidential plane at Jackson’s airport, and into the waiting delegation of government ministers, traditional dancers and the diplomatic corp.
