ChildFund Papua New Guinea successfully hosted a three-day training for Health Care Workers on COVID-19 Vaccination at Kupiano Station, Abau District, in Central Province.

Through the funding from Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), ChildFund PNG (CFPNG) supported the Central Provincial Health Authority (CPHA), with the training for Health Care Workers (HCW) from Kupiano, Moreguina and Upulima.

Sixteen HCWs attended, including Acting District Health Coordinator Valu Vanua.

The participants were given the opportunity to develop their understanding of the COVID-19 vaccine, do proper data entry in Planning, Monitoring and Reporting, conduct vaccine advocacy and administration of the vaccine in the Health Catchment population.

Mr. Vanua said the training is vital for health workers in the district, because remain skeptical about the vaccine. He said HCWs need to be well equipped to remove doubt and encourage the people to get the vaccine.

He said the training was very informative and enhances knowledge in terms of planning and developing advocacy program on the COVID-19 vaccine delivery.

The workshop was facilitated by the Covid-19 Provincial Trainers from ChildFund PNG, Central Provincial Health Authority and Kupiano Health Center and provided a platform for the HCWs to contribute ideas, discuss challenges faced, raise questions on issues affecting the delivery of the vaccine and come up with strategies to identify better ways to deliver the Covid-19 vaccine to the community effectively and efficiently.

Mr Willie said participants learnt and described the Pathogens and Coronavirus disease, to effectively communicate related information to the community, and in turn increase vaccination.
