Activities to mark Kokoda Campaign 75 years

Commemoration activities will be held to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Kokoda Track Campaign.

This is was launched yesterday including a 75th Anniversary logo to signify the milestone.

The commemoration activities were officially launched by Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Tobias, Kulang, in the presence of Oro Governor, Gary Juffa, and Tourism Promotion Authority Chief Executive Office, Jerry Agus.

The activities include the ‘Anniversary Commemoration Events,’‘Sporting Activities,’ and Projects along ‘Kokoda Track.’

Key commemoration activities include the ANZAC Dawn Service (April 25), remembrance Day (July 23), and Kokoda Day (November 3).

Sporting activities include Volleyball, Netball, the Kokoda Ultra Marathon, and a Kokoda Fuzzy Wuzzy Rugby 9’s.

Projects to be carried out include a can bridge construction, standardised toilets, waste management, and training and awareness.

The 75th logo will also be used to promote these commemoration activities.

The activities are coordinated by TPA, the Kokoda Track Authority (KTA), Conservation and Environment, Protection Authority(CEPA), Kokoda Initiative (KI), the Ministry, as well as Australian Department  of Foreign Affairs.

The Kokoda Track derives its history from the epic Battle of Kokoda between Australian Diggers and Japanese soldiers.

The track is a historic early colonial mail and trade route that cut across the Owen Stanley Ranges traversing Koiari and Orokaiva territory passing through the borders of Central Province and the Northern Province.
