A man from Morobe, will serve 27 years at the Buimo Jail, after he was convicted of having an incestuous relationships with his only biological daughter.
The 47 year old fathered seven children with his daughter as a result of this relationship.
The Lae National Court on Friday sentenced him to jail after he admitted to one count of incest and one count of persistent sexual abuse.
As a result of his incestuous relationship with his only biological daughter, who was then 18 years old, he fathered seven children with her between 2003 and 2017.
The second victim, who is the eldest child, was persistently sexually abused by him too between 2016 and 2017. She too became pregnant at 14 and gave birth to a male child in August 2017.
He was 33 years older than the second victim.
The first victim, Serah said in her impact statement that he would come home drunk, chase away her mother, and have sexual intercourse with her.
“My mother wanted to come and report the matter but he threatened her, that if she does, then he would kill her….when my mother saw all that he did to me, she was very worried and died of stress in 2007 and I lived alone with my father as his wife,” she wrote.
The sexual assault continued onto the first child of their incestuous relationship.
The pedophile would sexually molest her under the pretext of disciplining her at home while everyone was out. He even molested her out in his cocoa plantation.
Justice Frazer Pitpit in sentencing him said both offenses occurred over a very long period of time, resulting in the birth of eight children.
“The offense he committed is prohibited by the three sources of our laws, namely our criminal law, the Christian principal and the Customary, throughout the entire country.
“He has left behind nothing good for his family except hardship and pain. The offenses are very serious and prevalent.
“He has demonstrated the tendency to prey on young children, and I think the best solution would be to put him away for a long time so that when he is finally released, he would no longer be a threat to anyone,” Justice Pitpit said.
He was given continuous sentences of 7 years for the incest of his daughter since she was 18 and 20 years jail time for the persistent sexual abuse of the 14 year old daughter he fathered with her.
He spent nine months in custody awaiting trial, which will be deducted from the head sentence. He now has 26 years and 2 months left to serve at Buimo.
