PIH takes specialist health care to Kwikila

The rural population also deserves the right to have basic health services.

In a first of its kind understanding, Pacific International Hospital and the Rigo District Development Authority has allowed this basic service to the people in the district.

As per the commitment to Rigo DDA, PIH conducted its specialist clinics at the Kwikila Health Centre over the weekend.

Medical Director of PIH, Dr Suresh Venkita, attended to patients with Internal Medicine queries at Kwikila on Saturday, May 7.

This was part of  an agreement to provide a different specialist every week for those the Kwikila Health Centre caters to.

This support began in January of this year, 2017. However, due to renovation required to make the place operational, regular medical care dispensed by the PIH team was delayed until April.

The Kwikila Hospital has been significantly renovated since and made functional. It now caters to most of the health needs of people around that area. PIH has stationed a full time doctor and nurse along with the basic admin staff to make sure the hospital stays functional.

There have been some safety concerns that are currently being addressed.

Prior the Saturday visit, Dr Mathias Sapuri also visited the centre and attended to patients.

The other specialists lined up are Dental – May 13, Ophthalmologist – May 20 and Surgeon May 27.  PIH is also offering Free Dental Checks and Free Eye Test on a regular basis to all the residents of Kwikila.

“This is the first of this kind, but PIH is always willing to reach out to which ever DDA requires this kind of support from us,” a PIH spokesperson said.
