Fighting climate change in the Pacific

How do you secure your future now?

David Rupa, a young advocate in PNG, points us in the direction of 350.org.

This is a youth led grassroots movement working with communities, to fight climate change from the Pacific Islands.

A timely and urgent move.

A step in this direction is the Pacific Climate Warriors Declaration on Climate Change.

This declaration is ones commitment to a safer and better future.

Outlining what needs to be done to avoid further climate catastrophe, it calls for the end of the fossil fuel era and the immediate transition to 100 per cent renewable energy.

350.org is pushing for change, to move the world towards renewables, to hold governments accountable for inaction on climate change, and to change the narrative of Pacific Islanders from ‘victims of climate change, to warriors of the Pacific.’

So with it, is the #HaveYourSei campaign, where the climate warriors are calling on indigenous voices to share their stories on climate change.

Citizens and leaders are also encouraged to sign the Climate Change declaration.

This climate change declaration - a simple but effective tool, is to ensure that Pacific Island voices are heard at this year's climate negotiations in Bonn, Germany.

The declaration is available and can be signed online (www.haveyoursei.org).
