Cakes, cakes and more cakes!

Cakes, cakes and more cakes.

Yes, it’s the time of the year you get to spoil your child, apart from their birthday.

Before you think of running to some fancy bakery and spending so much, we’ve got one just for you.

Adriana Loretta Sowei!

For one, she has set side her holiday trip to bake and secondly, she’s 20 years old which means she knows just the theme that would get your child excited.

Loop PNG lifestyle had a chat with Adriana, the second in her family of six.

“I taught myself how to bake a year ago when my mum went for a two-week holiday and I didn't want to go buy my siblings sweets and cakes from the stores,” she said.

Interestingly, she’s a baker who does not get high on her own supply or eat it, for that matter.

Believe it or not, Adriana disliked the taste of cake as a child and later on during her primary school days, discovered she was allergic.

But the cakes she bakes now will fool you!

“I was told the cakes I made tasted really good and family friends started ordering from me, that's how I started selling cakes and cupcakes. I don't eat what I make.”

The varieties are:

Black forest cake, mud cake, red velvet cake, lemon cake, coconut cake, cheesecake, chocolate and peanut butter cake and Oreo cake, cupcakes, muffins and cookies.

And get this: She bakes from her family home kitchen, in Rainbow, Port Moresby.

“I just use a standard domestic gas stove that almost everyone has in their homes using baking tins that my mother bought before I was born,” Adriana added.

When Loop PNG lifestyle asked her the biggest order she’s baked, she said:

“I remember that order. A 50x80cm black forest cake for my friend's 21st birthday party. It was half the size of a dining table and four people had to carry it,” she said with a laugh.

Baking is not a full time profession though, for the West Sepik (Nuku) mix Bougainville (Buin) girl.

“I go to school at Pacific Adventist University. I am a second year science student, studying biology and environmental science.”

So imagine your table lined with brightly decorated cakes.

Prices range, depending on the type of cake ordered.

Adriana can be reached on Facebook page Doughnut Queen or inbox her personal account, Hades-nana Lor-e Sowei.

Delivery costs K10 or customers may pick up from her family home at Rainbow.
