Youth group to host meeting for ‘nation builders’

Dynamic youth development organization The Voice Inc will be holding its inaugural Nation Builders Conference in Port Moresby from January 15 to 22, 2016.

The conference is expected to bring 45 young people from Papua New Guinea and Australia and will also see keynote speakers attend including the patron of the conference, Secretary General of the Pacific Forums Secretariat Dame Meg Taylor.

Keynote speakers will talk around the theme Building a Sustainable Future and the event will bring together students doing the third level of The Voice Inc.’s Leadership Development Program at the University of PNG and the PNG University Of Technology and as well as young people from its partner, Oaktree in Australia.

Executive Director of The Voice Inc. Serena Sumanop said the aim of the conference is to strengthen the network of like-minded young people interested in impacting change in their campuses and communities.

“With the world transitioning from the Millennium Development Goals to the Sustainable Development Goals it is important to include young people in the discussion and ensure their voices are heard at the highest levels of decision making,” Sumanop said

She said the 45 participants are actively involved in various associations and volunteer in their universities and communities and the aim is to further equip them with ideas, tools, knowledge and networks they need to strengthen their leadership roles.

The conference will end with a dialogue co-hosted by the Lowy Institute for Foreign Policy that has worked with The Voice Inc. annually to host the annual Emerging Leaders Dialogue in Sydney, Australia. The outcomes of this conference will then be presented to key stakeholders.
