We still remain united, says Polye

We are a nation with a thousand tribes and more than 800 languages we still remain united.

This is the independence message from the Opposition Leader Don Polye on the country’s 41st independence anniversary.

He said this day, 41 years ago, our founding fathers charted a new destiny for this nation.

No other country parallels this achievement.

“Let us now learn from the past, analyse the present, and decide for the future. We must demonstrate that we are capable of managing our own affairs.

“It’s time now to take stock of how we as a nation have come this far and plan for the next 41 years.

“We must admit that we have made mistakes and take steps to correct them.

“As leaders of this nation, we must admit our failures and learn from them to provide a better government for our people.

“I call on all Papua New Guineans to observe the importance of the day and celebrate with true meaning and care.

“As Parliamentary Leader of the Opposition, Parliamentary Leader of THE Party and on behalf of my people of Kandep, I wish you all happy  and thoughtful - celebrations.”
