Turi takes action on discipline in the force

With this year being the year of discipline, NCD Police Boss Ben Turi is stressing on discipline in the force to prevail.

Turi says discipline was an issue before he had taken office as MetSup and there were too many rogue officers running loose.

“We have grouping system, wantok system and favoritism and one officer has his own group of officers who over ride and over rule all other officers in the city,” says Turi.

Turi says he has done away with all this issue existing of grouping system in force and that there are only special groups to do specific duties in the force.

Turi admits that he only has a reserve unit that is looking after his family and home which comes after an bombing attempt murder on his family in February and that is the only group he knows off that’s doing that task.

He says that as far as he is concerned, there are no other little groupings within the force adding that he will not tolerate any regionalism in the force.

He adds that he has made sure that all PCS’s are from different provinces from different regions and members are mixed together in every sections in the force.

He adds that in the first quarter of the year, there were 40 reported discipline charges that was all reaching back to two- three years as well as the current ones.

“In the second quarter, it dropped down to 35 and it should drop down in the next two quarters which will come out later this year,” says Turi.

So far, out of the 75 charges on officers, 15 were dismissed; one commissioning officer and the rest are from other ranks.

One officer was demoted while one was asked to pay a fine fee.

“These are the results of discipline and cutting off any rogue officers in the force.”
