Successful partnership between National Planning and Marie Stopes

The Sustainable Population Project is the result of a partnership between Marie Stopes Papua New Guinea in the Department of National Planning & Monitoring.

To showcase the achievements of this partnership Marie Stopes PNG is hosting an event at the Laguna Hotel on the 23rd of February.

Through the Sustainable Population Project, Marie Stopes PNG has provided quality, comprehensive, voluntary Family Planning services to new clients in selected provinces; including NCD, Central, Lae, Madang, Milne Bay, Southern Highlands and Enga.

Expansions of outreach teams have enabled Marie Stopes PNG to provide access to family planning services to numerous previously underserved rural communities.

In the first two years of the project over 40,000 clients were able to access Family Planning methods of their choice, over time this will resolve in 32,600 unintended pregnancies prevented and 36 maternal deaths averted.

Aside from the health benefits the project has also had an estimated saving of   PGK 4, 116 288 for the PNG National Health Systems.

Partnerships are essential in Marie Stopes Papua New Guinea’s efforts to roll out family planning to more provinces in PNG.

Marie Stopes PNG values the partnership we have with the PNG Government, Provincial and district authorities and rural communities, and our donor agencies as we endeavour to make available family planning choices to the people of Papua New Guinea.

At the event on the 23rd Marie Stopes PNG will present the results of the first two years of the Sustainable Population Project Minister Charles Abel and senior members of the Department of National Planning & Monitoring, the National Department of Health and other stakeholders.
