Street and Music Festival gets underway in NCD

It's a street festival so we are basically bringing the celebrations on to the streets, Marie Nick Mapai of Pascoe Promotions explains about the Street and Music Festival which began today.

Pascoe Promotions on behalf of National Capital District is the organiser of the first of its kind street festival event which will go on for the next two days.

The event, open to the public, will feature creative activities and performances to celebrate PNG's 41st anniversary.

Today saw among the performances Saiwara Ambai Cultural Group, Acoustic performance by Mary Nateva, South Side crew, Yoga Unites and Independence Fashion Show by World Supermodel PNG.

With a total of 50 stalls, 34 of which are paid, Mapai says three have been set aside for arts and crafts specifically and  one is open to street vendors with PNG featured products.

Despite a late start and slow crowd in the morning, the numbers increased after lunch and Mapai is confident tomorrow will be twice as big.

Tomorrow's event will begin with NCD Governor Powes Parkop being escorted by the Police Brass Band and at least 500 students, from the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium, walking all the way to the event venue at Paga Hill.

The event is staged at the new Paga Hill ring road that goes from Ela Beach, past Sea Park (as is previously called) towards Harbour side.
