Sports trust to manage Games facilities

All games facilities that were upgraded and used during the Pacific Games will come under the management of the National Sports Trust Limited.

The management of the facilities however does not include the Games village which will come under the University of Papua New Guinea.

This was announced today by Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko during a press conference.

Tkatchenko says while the rest of the Pacific enjoyed the sports facilities during the two weeks, his office will now ensure all those facilities are well kept and maintained for use in the long run.

He said mismanagement of the Games facilities in the past should not be repeated, thus the setting up of the National Sports Trust to manage the facilities.

He said while the Games village will come under the management of the University of Papua New Guinea,  neither the university nor the government had the capacity to manage it.

He said it needs to be outsourced for management purposes so that the K240 million worth of facilities can be kept in good condition  in the long run.
