Rights of women must be recognised: Manager

Mama Lus Frut Scheme, for the first time since its formation, received training and projects funding from New Britain Palm Oil Ltd, facilitated through its sustainability department.

A total of K14,400 was presented to the MLF chairlady Mamel Taina, treasurer Emma Mobeo and coordinator under the Oil Palm Industry Corporation (OPIC) programs Elizabeth Rava, last Friday.

In presenting the cheque, NBPOL sustainability manager Peter Callister acknowledged the work and input from OPIC and the executives in coming up with the proposal. The rights of women must be recognised to earn income and be taught life skills so they can sustain their families.

The Mama Loose Fruit life skills training included sewing, baking, cooking, floriculture and financial literacy. They will also facilitate a revolving chicken project with set criteria of six batches.

The programs will be monitored and supported by the community engagement officer from the sustainability department.

Under this project, another five set of sewing machines will be presented this week, totalling to 10 machines. On behalf of OPIC, Hoskins project manager Michael Buka thanked NBPOL for its continued assistance.
