Potential investments in ARoB raise eyebrows

Agriculture and alternative energy are two potential investments that have raised eyebrows at an Australian trade mission in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.

Delegates from the Cairns Chamber of Commerce (CCC) and from Port Moresby will travel to Port Moresby today to further strengthen business ties established at the start of the year.

“We spent time in Buka and in Arawa just to look at business opportunities, meeting local businesses in Bougainville and getting a sense of where it’s going and everybody was really positive and enjoyed the trip,” said CCC member, Gary Aylwood.

Following their trip to Buka and Arawa, an invitation was extended to local businesses from both townships to attend the Australia-PNG Business Forum in Australia.

Aylwood says the second trip to ARoB is to further strengthen existing ties and further look into sectors of interest.

“We will be heading off tomorrow (19th October) with 10 delegates, and they vary from agriculture, alternative power, diesel generators, to do some training, and marketing,” said Aylwood.

The delegates attended a Tradelinked business networking event last night in Port Moresby to mingle with local businessmen and women.
