Oro man on trial for false pretense

A 27-year-old Oro Bay man will stand trial at the Waigani District Court on Oct 17 following an election by the Public Prosecutor for the District Court to conduct a summary trial of his case.

Lucian Kaitora of Emo village, Northern Province will return to the District Court next month with his lawyer for the trial.

Senior District Court Magistrate Cosmas Bidar in deferring the trial to October said the Police Prosecution team is expected to call three witnesses for the trial.

The trial which was set for today could not proceed to a hearing as Kaitora’s lawyer was out of Port Moresby on Duty travel.

Police allege Kaitora on Sept 23 last year at the DCA compound at Kondobu sold a 40ft container to a Jacob Gubi with the intent to defraud him.

Gubi, a Health Extension Officer at the Laloki Psychiatric Hospital bought the container from Kaitora and another man (also before the court) worth K5,500 without knowing the property belonged to the Port Moresby Betting shop.

On Sept 27, 2015, police received reports from the Port Moresby Betting shop that their container was at Gubi’s block at Laloki outside Port Moresby.

Kaitora and his co-accused, Derol Maibani were later arrested and charged by police for the alleged offense.
