Oil palm giant partners with PNGNID

New Britain Palm Oil Limited (NBPOL) is the first corporate entity in the agriculture sector to partner with the PNG National Identity Project (PNGNID).

The Memorandum of Understanding signed today in Port Moresby will see the registration of its NBPOL entire workforce, dependents, local landowners and land leases.

“PNGNID in essence will provide critical people data to help us manage our business and small holder partners and obviously, planning for future developments,” NBPOL country manager Robert Nilkare said.

“We place a lot of emphasis on our customary landowners in terms of ILG (incorporated land group) registration; we feel that an identification card such as this will help us in terms of ILG registration and issuance of customary leases for smallholder development, because a number of years now we have issues with birth certificate.”

Nilkare said NBPOL operates in six provinces and 323, 750 are direct beneficiaries of its operations.

The company operates in West New Britain, Milne Bay, Oro, New Ireland and the border of Morobe and Madang provinces.

Oil palm, sugar and cattle farming are businesses the NBPOL invests in.
