More than 2,000 residents participated in event

Over 2,000 people turned up at the Port Moresby Nature Park yesterday to celebrate World Environment Day.

It was a family fun-filled event with activities including informative displays from over 20 participants, face-painting, games and animal shows.

The event was held in partnership with BSP as part of their Go Green campaign.

Other organisations present included Conservation and Environment Protection Authority, Piku Pig-nose Turtle Project, Love Your Coast and KK Kingston.

Each organisation focused on one of four themes - water or energy conservation, waste reduction or maintaining healthy environments.

General manager of the Nature Park, Michelle McGeorge said she was happy about how the celebrations had gone.

“We are pleased to have seen such a great turnout by families who are interested and concerned about the state of our environment.

“We are really grateful to BSP for continuing to partner with us to put on this event as well as our participating organisations that, without them, there would be no event,” said McGeorge.

World Environment Day has been celebrated at the Nature Park for four years running and has become one of the biggest celebrations of the day in the city.
