Madonna starts intimate Melbourne gig four hours late

Madonna tested fans patience when she started an impromptu Melbourne concert a whopping four hours late tonight (March 10).

What was supposed to be a rare and intimate gig at the 1,500-seat Forum Theatre on Thursday turned into fan frustration - at least for a little while -  because of undisclosed delays.

Digital Spy has reached out to Madonna's representatives for comment on the matter.

Melbourne's show was not a standard date on the Material Girl's 'Rebel Heart Tour' – rather a specially-crafted event celebrating Madonna's return to Australia after 23 years.

Dubbed the 'Tears of a Clown' show, the setlist blended timeless hits - 'Don't Tell Me', 'Holiday' and 'Borderline'– with tracks performed for the first time ever (including 2003's 'Easy Ride' and 'I'm So Stupid') and actual comedy.

Madonna is set to resume the full-scale 'Rebel Heart Tour' with two shows at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena on Saturday (March 12) and Sunday (March 13).

Earlier today, the musician joined in on a London court hearing involving her and ex-husband Guy Ritchie's custody fight over son Rocco.

Fans on social media largely found the 'Tears of a Clown' gig well worth the wait.
