Lands officers waiting on SABL decision

The government is expected this year to take action on the recommendations made by the Inquiry into the Special Agriculture Business Lease system.

Deputy Secretary of Land Services at Lands Department Lawrence Ndrombut said the department is awaiting a decision from the government on how previous SABLs will be handled.

Recommendations on how the government will move to deal with the SABLs are before the National Executive Council for consideration.

Forest Minister Douglas Tomuriesa recently told LOOP News that when the government is satisfied a decision will be made.

He says this is likely to happen this year.

The government has been heavily criticized by Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) for taking too long to take action.
