Kimbe to host Cancer awareness campaign

Kimbe is gearing up for the biggest morning tea ever in the province tomorrow.

Organised by aspiring young female doctors to raise awareness on Women’s cancer, the event will be held at the Sanremo Hotel.

One of the organisers Dr Hilda Audubo told Loop PNG that this month of October is Women's cancer awareness month and so her doctor colleagues are organizing two exciting events to raise awareness on breast and cervical cancers.

She added that at the same time they will be doing fundraising towards purchasing the much needed pap smear kits so all the girls and mamas in the province can be screened.

“The first event is this coming Sunday which is going to be Kimbe's first ever biggest morning tea down at Sanremo.

“We are getting business organizations in town to support and donate for a good cause.

“It’s quite a big fundraiser drive to support WNB girls and women cancer screening program.”

Dr Audubo said they have also organized a fun-run event at the end of this month, Oct 30.”

She said t-shirts will be sold at the fun-run and all the money raised will go towards carrying out awareness and Pap smear screening programs.

Dr Audubo said they’ll carry out education awareness on both cervical and breast cancer during the event.

“And what's more exciting is we are getting few women survivors to come give their testimonials and the challenges they faced, etc.

“We are inviting all the community members, leaders, and everyone to come take part and hopefully have a glimpse into the reality of these cancers in our community.”

PNG cancer foundation in Port Moresby is supporting the events by donating information pamphlets and posters to distribute on both events.
