Five key issues to be discussed at PIF

Pacific region government leaders and government officials will converge in Port Moresby next Monday for the 45th Pacific Islands Forum.

Five priority issues to be discussed were identified by the Pacific Island Forum Secretariat.

The issues are as follows

- increased economic returns from fisheries and maritime surveillance;

 - climate change and disaster risk management;

- information and communication technology;

- West Papua and

- cervical cancer

 

The schedule for the 46th Pacific Islands Forum and related meetings is as follows:

  • Smaller Islands States leaders meeting will be held on September 7th at the Laguna Hotel.

  • Pacific ACP Leaders Meeting, Gateway Hotel, Port Moresby September 8th .

  • 46th Pacific Islands Forum Formal Session (closed), Sir John Guise Indoor Sports Complex September 9th.

  • Forum Leaders Retreat to be held also in Port Moresby will be on September 10th and then on Friday September 11

  • Post-Forum Dialogue Partners plenary session

A number of bilateral meetings covering business linkages and PNG's development support to island states will be discussed during this time.
